Exhibit Hall

It's a summer science smorgasbord at the Science Factory! We're featuring an assortment of interactive, hands-on exhibits from our collection. You can re-visit favorites as well as explore newly-created exhibits that make learning about science a blast. You'll have a chance to:
- Learn about air flow with multiple Bernoulli blowers, an air cannon, and an air table
- Exercise your gray matter by tackling a set of brain teasers
- Create the longest chain of dominoes that you can
- Explore the beauty of the outdoors through a series of nature photographs by local photographer and Science Factory volunteer Don Lown
We'll be rotating exhibits throughout the summer, so come back often to see what’s new!
Planetarium

“40 Years from the Moon”
Saturdays & Sundays
2 pm
The Moon has had a powerful influence on our planet Earth and its inhabitants. Its gravitational pull on Earth causes the tides. The phases of the moon have given us a way to measure time by dividing our days into weeks and months. Our ancestors even thought of the Moon as a goddess or a god whose influence on our lives could be for good or ill. On July 16, 1969 — only 40 years ago — in one of the greatest adventures in history, humankind first set foot upon the moon.

Beer: A Tasty Blend of Art, History, and Science
Do you know the difference between ale and lager? Or why traditional German brewers had to boil some of the malt during the brewing process when English brewers did not? Although many microbrewers today approach brewing as an art form, understanding the science behind the process is essential for making consistently good beer. Oregon brewers have built on that history, supporting a vibrant microbrew industry with more breweries in Portland (“Beervana”) than any other metro area in the world. Come to Science Pub to hear about the facts, processes, and science behind brewing tasty beer.
Jeff Clawson is the Pilot Brewery Manager at Oregon State University and supports research and instruction in the Fermentation Science program, part of the College of Agriculture Sciences’ Department of Food Science and Technology.
