School Group Visits Field Trip Information: » Exhibit Hall (Self Guided) » Exploration Dome Shows » Scholarships » Earth to Sky » Take Flight Outreach Program A field trip to the Science Factory creates an engaging and educational experience for students while helping teachers to meet Oregon State Science Standards. Groups can choose to explore space during an exploration dome show, discover the specifics of science in a field trip lab, or explore the exhibits on their own. Field Trip Labs Take Flight Outreach Program Introducing Take Flight, a new in-school program from the Science Factory! In this 3-hour program, teachers from the Science Factory and Young Writers Assoication (YWA) visit your school to present a day of creative exploration of science and the arts. Who is eligible? The program is designed for students in grades 1 to 6. Up to three full classes (or 120 students) within the same school may sign up jointly for a day. Lunches Due to space limitations, lunches cannot be eaten indoors at the Science Factory. However, we do have a covered area with limited picnic tables available.  Chaperones Teachers and adult chaperones for every 6 students receive FREE admission. Additional chaperones will pay the admission fees. Gift Shop Our museum shop features learning toys and small novelty items. All museum gift shop revenue supports ongoing museum activities. We encourage your group’s patronage!

This traveling exhibition, created by Science Works Hands-On Museum in Ashland, OR explores the physics of sound, music and hearing through a variety of hands-on stations. Highlights include:
NOISE! Field Trip Labs Grades 1-6 In addition to the basic exhibit, you may sign up for one of the Enrichment Labs that the Science Factory has prepared in conjunction with the exhibit. These 45-minute hands-on classroom programs will enhance your students’ experience with interactive lessons led by a Science Factory educator. If your school group includes low-income students, the Science Factory has scholarships available to help with the cost of admission. To inquire about available scholarships and/or to sign up for these labs, please call Visitor Services at 541-682-7895. 45 minutes 15 students or fewer: $30 $2 for each additional student over 15 24 students maximum. Groups over 24 students can be split into two groups and registered for two back-to-back programs.
Music Lab
Additional Field Trip LabsFor Grades 1-3 Students will experiment with different families of musical instruments and learn how each generates sound. Advanced Music Lab For Grades 4-6 Students will examine the musical concepts of harmony and resonance. Grades 1-6 The following labs were created to accompany a previous exhibit. They are still available upon request. Please contact Visitor Services to register for these labs.
Balance Lab
ScholarshipsFor Grades 1-3 This lab introduces the concept of center of gravity, which deterimines an object's ability to stay upright. Students will build and examine toys that use center of gravity in surprising ways, leading to impossible-looking balancing acts and unexpected motions. Gyro Lab For Grades 4-6 This lab offers lessons inm rotational motion though an examination of gyroscopes. We learn what makes gyroscopes stay upright when spinning, how rotation affects forces in unexpected ways, and how gyroscopes are put to use in many toys and practical applications. In order to make Science Factory programs and services accessible to all members of the community, the Science Factory is pleased to provide financial assistance to groups who are unable to afford regular Science Factory admission and program registration fees.  The Science Factory's goal is to assist all those who request and qualify for assistance; however, we may not be able to accommodate all requests. Requests for scholarships will be approved on the basis of eligibility and the availability of funds. Requests will be handled on a "first come, first served" basis. Apply for a field trip scholarship using this form: Earth to Sky Program Your students can enjoy a whole day of science and nature exploration by combining an afternoon planetarium visit at the Science Factory (12-1pm) with a morning Nearby Nature Walk in Alton Baker Park (9:30-11:45). Nearby Nature administers this collaborative group program.
