University Day University Day

All Ages/Drop-in/Event free with Exhibit Hall admission

Professors and students from the University of Oregon visit the Science Factory to provide a science extravaganza full of hands-on demonstrations and activities. Meet these scientists and learn about the research going on right here in our own community. Trick your brain with optical illusions, see subatomic particle tracks and cosmic rays in a spark chamber, and more!
Laser Date Night

Tuesday, February 14
7:00 - 10:00 pm
Location: Science Factory


Science Factory members, seniors, and students (student I.D. required if over 13): $5; Non-members: $6

Romantics, make a date with Pink Floyd, the Beatles, and more! Laser shows play every hour on the hour from 7 - 9 pm on February 14, with the last show playing at 9 pm. Laser show titles, descriptions, times.

Location: Gateway Mall


Competition is for children in grades 1 - 6 only. Check-in at 1 pm; contest begins at 1:30 pm. Spaces are limited. All participants must be registered and confirmed. Register in advance through the Science Factory. Advance registration deadline: Wednesday, February 15. Participants and spectators: Free.

Join us again for the Annual Block Kids Competition, co-sponsored by the National Association of Women in Construction and the Science Factory. Kids in the competition design and build any structure they want, using interlocking blocks, then share their vision with judges from the local construction industry. The winner's entry will go on to the regional competition with a chance at competing at the national level. All participants get to explore designing and building, and take home a goody bag. Register now.
Nikon's Small World Exhibition Science Factory After Dark - FOR ADULTS

Science Factory members: $5; non-members: $7. This event is for ages 21 and over; I.D.s are required.

Enjoy this special program for adults only to celebrate science and visual arts. View the exhibits Nikon's Small World Photomicrography Competition 2011 and Attack of the Bloodsuckers!, and watch a laser show! Laser shows are scheduled at 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 pm. Nibble hors d'oeuvres and enjoy the cash-only bar from 5 - 8 pm. See the laser show schedule.

Our resident iguana Renegade is always excited to see live reptiles and amphibians visiting the Science Factory! On this day, meet turtles, lizards, snakes, frogs, and salamanders and their owner/experts from the Oregon Herpetological Society. Ask questions and get tips on how to take care of your own cold-blooded pets at home.

Come explore the amazing science that keeps us happily living on Earth. Exhibit Hall guides will have a special activity or demonstration set up every afternoon this week. These activities are part of worldwide recognition by science centers of the Planet under Pressure science conference in London this week.

Did you know that insects represent more than half of all known living organisms on Earth? Discovery the fascinating world of bugs! You will examine mounted insect specimens, talk to the experts at Zany Zoo about keeping bugs as pets, and see live tarantulas, scorpions, and mosquitoes up close. You may also have the opportunity to catch a bed bug canine inspection demonstration, offered by Sprague Pest Solutions. Enjoy the exhibit Attack of the Bloodsuckers! and find out why bugs are an important part of our environment. Bugs! A Rainforest Adventure will play in the the Exploration Dome.

Admissions to the Exhibit Hall and seasonal star shows are free and live shows and full-dome movies are discounted during Open House. Come one, come all to enjoy earth-friendly activities in celebration of Earth Day. Starting this day, summer camp registration is open to all.
