December E-News, 2005

Greetings Science Factory Members and Friends!

We’re gearing up for a great December to close out 2005!

WINTER WONDERLAND FOR TOT DISCOVERY DAY
Make a snowflake, snow paint, melt in some dramatic play games and more for our First Friday Tot Discovery Day, tomorrow morning from 10 AM – Noon, December 2. Brrrrr! Investigate our coldest season with hands-on stations and more fun with cold in a warm place than you’ll ever have. Hope to see you! $10/each tot/adult pair. Members, free!

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE THIS SATURDAY
Our chance to thank you for your support all year long! A FREE Holiday Open House, with candle-making, soap-making and plenty of fun for all, this Saturday, December 3, Noon – 4 PM. If you haven’t taken in the Sportsology exhibit, this could be your lucky day. Free Planetarium shows as well, including our newest show for older audiences, “Are We Alone.” Fun for adults and children. We’ve stocked up our museum store, ArtiFACTS, just for the occasion. Do some early holiday shopping and help support Science Factory activities all at the same time!

PLUS, we’ll also be having a Book Fair, featuring Usborne books. Wonderful educational material in all areas, with particular emphasis on science. Double your shopping fun, and help us raise funds with your support of the Book Fair. Usborne has a terrific new line of internet-linked reference books, containing quick link websites that pertain to the overall topic of the book. The Book Fair takes place all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so even if you don’t come to the Open House, there are still opportunities to partake.

NEW CLASS SCHEDULE FOR 06
Our new class schedule is at press as we speak! Look for it to be posted on our website (www.sciencefactory.org) next week, so that you can plan after-school classes for your children before or during Winter Break. We have jam-packed the schedule with some great classes, including some wonderful activities for the older elementary aged children. Build your own telephone, learn the elements of “spy science” and more! If you are a member, we suggest you still check in at the website, as the holiday mail may slow down our information landing on your doorstep.

EVERY DAY IS FUN AT THE SCIENCE FACTORY OVER WINTER BREAK
Boredom blues busters! We’ve planned a host of activities over Winter Break so that every day will have something new and exciting happening here, in addition to our regular exhibits and planetarium shows. Check the schedule, but just to whet your appetite, may we say:

Balloon Science
Forensic Science
Rainstick Noise Makers
Electricity and Lasers
Paper Making

That’s just the beginning. Every activity is included in the admission price. New activities every day! We’re sure to keep your holidays happy here.

PLUTO’S NEW MOONS (at least, according to us Earthlings)
Astronomers have spotted two objects that may be previously unknown moons of Pluto.

HOW GOOGLE EARTH WORKS
Online mapping programs are a godsend for those of us who get lost easily, and they're just plain fun for people who enjoy figuring out where stuff is. But Google Earth is no ordinary mapping application.

Learn how to use Google Earth and find out why South Korea is demanding changes to the program.
