We're pulling out the stops for a day of biking, fun and learning this Saturday, May 7, 12 noon to 4 PM. Bike Day gets in gear with a Solar System Bike Tour from Noon - 1:30 PM. We'll have volunteers stationed at each of the planets, the sun and moon to provide fun facts and quizzes for participants. Five planets are located in Alton Baker Park, so if you're biking to the museum, that's a great place to start your tour. Volunteers will provide maps and a Planet Passport to ensure that every stop is easy to find and fun. After 1:30 PM, the tour will be self-guided and materials will only be available at the museum. Paul's Bicycle Way of Life donated a BMX bike ($170 value) and Burley Design donated a bike trailer ($350 value) as raffle prizes. Your Planet Passport will be your raffle ticket as well. (Admission to events at the Science Factory, including the raffle, $4) A host of fun events have been organized at the museum during our regular hours, Noon - 4 PM. Events include: *Bike Obstacle Course *McCornack Unicyclists *The Physics of Bikes *Bike Safety Demonstrations *Crazy Helmet Decorating *Bicycle Spoke Decorating *The Mysteries of the Flat Tire Revealed *Bike Safety Checks *Bike Identification in case of Bike Theft And More! For complete information, and a copy of the map, visit the following Bike Day link on our website: http://sciencefactory.org/education/bikeday_details.shtml We thank our sponsors, Lane Transit District, Commuter Solutions, the City of Eugene, Paul's Bicycle Way of Life and Burley Design for making this event possible. Speaking of bikes....This year's Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, featured three bicycle projects from three countries. Like many of the other experiments presented at ISEF, the bike projects showed that some of the most interesting scientific research often begins by taking a closer look at things you care about. http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org/articles/20030827/Feature1.asp READY, SET, DOUGH! Our Summer Science Adventures Camps are sure to keep your kids busy, active and engaged during the summer months ahead. We have added some wonderful new camps, including "Brainstorming Challenge" camps in each age category. The Brainstorming Challenge camps are part of a summer Inventive Thinking Program developed By Kids for Kids, in partnership with the nation's children's and science museums. The Challenge allows kids to take a shot at inventing the next best "toy, game or sporting good" of the future. Those "Brainstorming Challenge" camps are joined by many other new camps, including "Secrets of Egypt", "Survivor: Science Factory", and "Digital Photography". A complete listing of all camps can be found on our website. We are now making camps available for children entering kindergarten for the first time. Ages break down into groups including pre-K - 2nd grade, 3rd - 5th grade, and 6th - 8th grade. Morning, afternoon or all-day sessions available. Children can opt to stay for lunch or not if attending a half-day session. Our goal is to keep the camps flexible to meet all schedule needs. For a full camp schedule, visit: http://www.sciencefactory.org/pdf/summer_camp_05.pdf YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED Once a year, the Science Factory opens its doors to the membership for our annual meeting.
