New Exhibit and New Planetarium Show for Fall!
Zowee! It's a complete overhaul of the museum for a new season! The Science Factory is revving up for an action-packed fall with our biggest exhibit yet and a brand new planetarium show looking at the question, "Are We Alone?"

Members take note! A special members-only preview of our new exhibit, Sportsology, will take place on Wednesday, September 21, from 5 - 7 PM. It's your special sneak peek at the new exhibition, which we jointly created with the ScienceWorks Museum in Ashland. Sportsology is a full body experience -- hands-on and minds-on, allowing visitors to challenge and test their athletic abilities, while learning how bodies work. Explore, experiment and discover the science behind sports! Exhibits include the Pitching Cage, the Great Grip, Hang Time and more! Sportsology could be the best exhibit yet, but only if visitors come, learn and .

We are currently setting up a cadre of University of Oregon athletes to participate in the opening, so children can discover how their abilities compare to older, more experienced athletes. The evening should be a fun night for discovery. Additional members-only events may be scheduled during the course of the exhibit's run.

The new Planetarium show "Are We Alone?" will open on Sunday, September 11 at 2 PM. The show will examine the tantalizing question of where or how alien life might exist in the universe. Since the late 1990's, we have discovered more than 130 planets orbiting stars. Could these distant worlds harbor life? Will we be able to communicate with intelligent life on a planet orbiting a star? Come learn more at this new show, continuing all Sundays in September, and then selected Saturdays and Sunday through December.

Remember, your Science Factory membership allows you free, unlimited entry into both the Exhibit Hall and Planetarium for these wonderful new museum presentations.

SPEAKING OF MEMBERSHIPS...
We're blasting off the new school year with a special membership promotion! Renew or join the Science Factory for the first time, and you could be lucky enough to receive two free tickets to the STINKY CHEESE MAN and Other Fair(ly) (Stoopid) Tales, appearing at the Hult Center on Saturday, October 29 at 10 AM. Based on the hit book, The Stinky Cheese Man, audiences are in store for a nonstop hour and a half of hilarious havoc. (Editor's Note: A must-read wonderful children's book!)

We only have 10 pairs of tickets, so we will be giving out these tickets based on payment received. Please make note of this special promotion at the time of membership purchase. The tickets are $20 per person, so consider joining the Science Factory at the Premiere Value of $95 - which would still provide you the membership and the tickets for under cost. Call
682-7888 for further information on all of the benefits of membership.

CLASSES, CLASSES, CLASSES
Our Fall/Winter Class Schedule will be released shortly in our Fall Newsletter, as well as on our website. All classes will begin in October, with Magic School Bus classes (Grades K-2) taking place on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school and Science Adventure Workshops (Grades 3-5) taking place on the same days. We have terrific computer classes being offered in our newly outfitted computer lab, so make sure you look out for our schedule in the weeks ahead.

First Friday Discovery Days for Preschoolers will continue each month, with early entry to the museum from 10 AM - 12 Noon.

HOMEGROWN EXHIBITS SPROUT!
Combining brains and brawn, the Science Factory designed, built and now presents three new exhibits exploring a host of topics including electricity, magnetism, sound, light and more. These three exhibits were built under the direction of Ken Check, Facilities and Exhibits Coordinator for the museum and a Science Factory Board member. Using volunteers and staff from PSC Inc., the University of Oregon Physics Department and others, the exhibits include:

">Dancing Waters," ">Now You See It, Now You Don't", and "Sound-a-Rama." Discover the principles behind night vision photography, play with computer recordings of your voice to create echoes, and use a boombox to produce magnetic impulses. These wonderful new additions to the Science Factory's permanent collection will continue during the opening of the new Sportsology exhibition and will be rotated on and off the museum floor to keep our museum fresh and exciting.

FINAL WEEK FOR STORE SALE
We're moving the merchandise and clearing out the decks for new items for fall and (eek!) holiday shopping. Store sale ends with the opening of the Planetarium show on Sunday, September 11. Stop by and see the final remaining clearance items and some of our new merchandise for fall.
