The wonders of these new images and discoveries come alive in "Saturn: New Discoveries," a new Science Factory Planetarium show, debuting Saturday, January 7 at 2 PM and continuing through April 1st. Shows will be open to the public every Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM, and also available by reservation for groups and school field trips during the week. Admission to the new Saturn show will be $4 per person and is recommended for audiences ages 10 and up. In addition to examining the new Saturn discoveries, the show will also examine the moons of Saturn, which include Titan, a moon that is larger than two planets in our Solar System--Mercury and Pluto--and freezing cold (-290 F.) The Huygens spacecraft (which had been piggybacked onto the Cassini spacecraft) landed on the surface of Titan for the first time in June of 2004, and photographed the surface during its descent. TAKE A LOOK AT WEATHER FOR TOT DISCOVERY DAY What makes the weather? What types of weather do we have in Oregon? How does it differ from other parts of the globe? We’ll be taking a look at all types of weather phenomena for our WEATHER Tot Discovery Day, Friday, January 6, 10 AM – 12 Noon. Make your own clouds and design your own landscape, freeze and melt, design your own wardrobe for the appropriate weather, weather musical chairs, rainbow crafts, parade and more! Hope to see you! $10/each tot/adult pair. Members, free! NEW! NEW! NEW! CLASS SCHEDULE FOR 06 Have you registered your child for any of our great new classes for this month? The great news about our after-school programs is that they only last for one month, so you aren't pinned into something for the entire semester! We have jam-packed the schedule with some great classes, including some wonderful activities for the older elementary aged children. Build your own telephone, learn the elements of “spy science” and more! Full info on all of the classes is on our website at www.sciencefactory.org. Register now to ensure your spot. We've also added some great all-day sessions for those ever present No School Days. We're teaming up with Young Writers Association for our "Busy Brains on No School Days" where we will be studying science fiction, sports mania and Thomas Edison. HEADS UP ON THE CAVALCADE Frogs, snakes and geckos, oh my! Reptiles and amphibians with their owner-experts from the Oregon Herpetological Society will fill the Factory for a slitheringly good time! Get up close to an iguana, compare tongue colors with a skink, or visit the snake area. You’ll even get tips on how to care for your own pets at home. It all takes place at our Cavalcade of Crawling Creatures, on Saturday, January 28, as part of a special event that is included in your regular admission price. Hope to see you there!
