We’ll be exploring all elements of fruits and vegetables as we cultivate our personal gardens for the summer for Tot Discovery Day, Friday, June 2 from 10 AM – Noon. Strawberry investigations; create-your-own grape painting; scoop, sort and pour beans; and begin to grow your own bean stalk without Jack. The last Tot Day for the summer…we’ll resume this wonderful series in October. Members, Free; Non-Members, $10 for Adult/Tot combo.

Summer Camps Sizzling – Look for the Mayor to Meet and Greet!
"Be prepared."
"Fail to plan, plan to fail."
"The early bird catches the worm."

Our summer camps are more fun than your kids can have in one place. We’ve already closed out camps and are assembling wait lists for the Fossil Finders, Let’s Experiment, and Crazy Concoctions camps. Our Lost in Space, Out of this World and Brainstorming Challenge camps still have room. Build a model rocket, create your own product that might be marketed by a national company and more! Our camps all include hands-on activities, creative problem solving, outdoor play time in our beautiful park setting, and many field trips. Tons of topics including Kitchen Chemistry, Computer Fun & Games, Pirates & Vikings, CSI: Science Factory and more!

To kick off our first week of camp, we’ve invited special Advisory Board member and Science Factory supporter, Mayor Kitty Piercy to meet and greet your campers. The Mayor will be on hand our first day to talk about the importance of science education and to let kids know that they’re early learning now is a serious investment for their future.

Camp registrations are now accepted, with forms posted on our website. Additionally, forms should be available at the Eugene and Springfield Public Libraries, at local schools and other city buildings. Or request a form from our office at 682-7888. No time like the present to register, as we hate to turn folks away because of lack of space.

Some acclaim for Science Factory summer camps from last year:
Our first camp in Eugene! Great instructors – interesting curriculum (we had a difficult time deciding which camp to choose). We previously attended UC-Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science camps and yours were just as enjoyable! Good job!

Buy a Book For Dad or Grad and Support SF
Buy books at Barnes and Noble during the hot pre-Father’s Day bookselling season. From June 10th -16th, Barnes and Noble will donate a percent of your purchase to the Science Factory when you present your bookfair voucher. Purchase your kids’ summer reading list and support the museum as well. Please download the voucher attached to this e-mail so that your purchase will be working twice as hard.

Kickoff the entire week with a fun day of Sensory Science at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, June 10 at 2 PM. Our own fabulous Science Factory instructor Jen Shelton will be on hand to demonstrate some terrific science projects for program participants, including launching a miniature hot air balloon. Storytime reading will include a reading of Hot Air Balloon and more! Come and learn, enjoy and shop!

Amusement Park Science Exhibit Opening
Imagine yourself on a rotor. You know, one of those mind-boggling amusement park rides where the floor drops out and you stay put, stuck to the wall.

How does that work? You and your family will be able to find out the answers to these and other stomach-turning,head-spinning questions when you experience Amusement Park Science, a new traveling exhibit coming to the Science Factory on July 8.

Through interactive components, videos, computer kiosks and hands-on activities, Amusement Park Science explores the physics behind the fun at amusement parks. Included in the exhibit are explorations of the physics behind bumper car rides, roller coasters, swings and rotors.

Families will also be able to create your own roller coaster creation on a computer kiosk, and compare roller coaster tracks.

Amusement Park Science was researched, developed and produced by Discovery Center Museum in Rockford, Illinois. We are excited to offer this wonderful new attraction to our community. Sponsorships are still available, please contact Jerry Yu, Executive Director, 682-7887 for more information.

Heard about a Non-Event? It’s the Most Fun You’ll Never Have!
Science Factory members and supporters should think about the final preparations they won’t have to make to not attend our non-event! What’s a non-event? Well, it’s an event that doesn’t take place so you don’t have to be bothered with it. Our non-event will NOT feature Sally Ride, Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates. It WON’T be hosted by Walter Cronkite, anchor to the Apollo moon launch. And guess what? You don’t have to come! In fact, you don’t have to make idle conversation with strangers, or spend money on a fancy outfit you’ll never wear again ($100), or hire a babysitter ($25). All you do have to do is…..you guessed it, financially support the Science Factory! Look for full details on our website or in your mailbox. And consider us as you complete your late bills for May or your early bills for June.
