SEE WHY SIZE REALLY DOES MATTER FOR TOT DISCOVERY DAY
Marvel as the BIG becomes small, and the tiny becomes HUGE. Partnering with Barnes & Noble booksellers, Science Factory presents a unique opportunity for kids to experience ordinary objects in extraordinary ways with our Microscopic World Tot Discovery Day this Friday, March 3, 10 am-noon at the Science Factory.

As part of the day’s activities, we will:
* Use different sized dots to create a visual masterpiece that would make Dr. Seuss jealous
* miniaturize a work of art right before your eyes
* peer into the microscope and view a world never seen before
* measure your own body to see just how big or small you really are
* see if you can use what you’ve learned to make a match between big and small objects.

PLUS, a special appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog at 10:30 AM. Hope to see you! $10/each tot/adult pair. Members, free!

As a follow-up activity, Barnes & Noble will present a special story time session with Clifford the Big Red Dog at their store at Valley River mall on Saturday, March 4 at 11 AM. Pick up a flyer at our Tot Discovery Day and get it stamped at the mall to enter into a raffle for free books, a free Clifford stuffed animal and free admission to our next event!

SATURN SHOWS CONTINUE
After blasting off in October of 1997 and traveling over 995 million miles, the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft is now sending back remarkable photos and new discoveries as it orbits Saturn and probes its moons. The wonders of these new images and discoveries come alive in Saturn: New Discoveries, our current Planetarium show, continuing through April 1st.

Shows are open to the public every Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM, and also available by reservation for groups and school field trips during the week. Admission to the Saturn show is $4 per person and is recommended for audiences ages 10 and up.

We have jam-packed the schedule with some great classes, including some wonderful activities for the older elementary aged children. Build your own telephone, learn the elements of "spy science" and more! Full info on all of the classes is on our website at www.sciencefactory.org. Register now to ensure your spot.

2, 4, 6, 8, YOUR TEAM WILL APPRECIATE
Bring the whole team, club, troop, or gaggle and get into the action as you explore the science of sports! Test your athletic endurance at the Sportsology exhibits, join in the team relays and meet local sports personalities. Come together with your entire team on Saturday, March 3 as part of this special event. Team up with your group in wearing your uniforms and save $1 dollar off your regular admission price.

SPRING INTO ACTION THIS BREAK AND MAKE-A-KITE COME TRUE

Test your creativity and craftsmanship with this Spring Break Science Adventure Wednesday, March 29 through Friday, March 31 from 12-4 PM.

IT’S THE NEWEST CRAZE, BUT WHY?
Master the art of the Sudoku Puzzle and mesmerize your friends with your new skills! But guess what….it didn’t start in Japan!

Sudoku began as a game called "Number Place" in the Dell puzzle books from the 1970s. It was actually adapted from a mathematical concept called "Latin squares," which can be traced back to medieval times but was first written about by the Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler in the 1700s. "Number Place" was not overly popular in the United States. But in 1984, it landed in Japan and was an immediate success. Nobuhiko Kanamoto, editor of Nikoli, a Japanese puzzle publisher, called it Suuji Wa Dokushin Ni Kagiru ("The Numbers Must be Single"). It was later shortened to "sudoku," meaning "single number."

In 1997, New Zealander Wayne Gould discovered sudoku on a trip to Japan and tried to bring it to the United States. He spent years writing a computer program to generate puzzles. Gould pitched it to USA Today, who declined, but the New York Post picked it up in April 2005. Sudoku is now in 140 newspapers worldwide, and cell phone users can even download sudoku puzzles to their phones.
